Appeals

'Appeal' is the term used in Donor Mine to group together all the ways you interact with a Household or an Organization. Obvious types of Appeals would be:

  • Your annual newsletter

  • An end of the calendar year mailing you do in December

  • An organized calling campaign that your board participates in each spring

  • An email blast you send out to announce the beginning of a new venture

  • An invite you send out for your gala

  • Each donation, ticket, sponsorship, membership, or volunteer should be attached to an appeal so you can see how effective each appeal is. Appeal reports can be run on the DONATIONS tab, the MEMBERSHIP tab, the VOLUNTEERS tab or the REPORTS tab.

You can add or edit appeals by using the link on the ADMIN tab. You can also add budget and cost info to the database on these pages that will let you run a cost-benefit analysis

    Alternate uses
Appeals can also be created for non-obvious purposes. Sure, you would create an appeal for the invite you send out for your Gala. But if you get a bunch of unexpected donations at the event, you can create another appeal called 'Gala 2015 Donations at event.' Even though this wasn't an appeal you sent out, this is an avenue that produced donations.

Likewise, you can create an appeal for long-term avenues that genrate money or volunteers - your website is just such an 'appeal.'

We also recommend you use an appeal called 'Board' to group all of your gifts from Board members. That way if a Board member makes a large gift using the return envelope in your newsletter, her gift will not be counted as part of the gifts that came in from your constituents using that appeal, and therefore she won't skew how cost-effective the newsletter appeal was.

    Finding Appeals / Running Reports
Appeals can be added/edited/deleted from the ADMIN tab of Donor Mine. You can also find Appeals, and run reports on them on the main LIST tab of Donor Mine. Both options allow you to find records associated with an appeal, including how much you've made in donations from the appeal itself.
