Family Tree connections are simply
Notes that connect one record to another record.
Family Tree connections can be viewed and edit on either the
Notes page of any
Household or
Organization or on the Connections page of any
Household or
Organization. These connections will also be noted on many pages throughout the
Household or
Organization so everyone is aware of this important data.
Family Tree connections come in 2 varieties:
- Regular - two records related to each other - such as Sue Smith is the sister of John Smith.
- Family Tree connections that - two records that should be thought of as a single donor - Sue Smith is the owner of Sue's Designs and even though we have 2 separate master records for these two entities, any money given by one should be noted on the other as well. This will NOT cause your gifts to be douoble-entered, but rather any gift entered on Sue Smith's record will also be totaled on Sue's Designs record. That way you see her total value as a contributor.
To add a Family Tree Connection:
1.) Go to either the
Notes page of a
Household or
Organization or the Connections page of a
Household or
Organization.
2.) Choose the ADD button there.
3.) On the resulting note you can choose which TYPE of note this is - 'Family Tree' or 'Family Tree Combine Donations.'
4.) Make sure to enter a name in the FAMILY TREE CONNECTION / 'Search for records to connect to with names like' box. Enter a first or last name, whichever is more unique.
5.) When you fill out the rest of your note and hit update, you will then be prompted to choose a record from the resulting FAMILY TREE CONNECTION drop down menu. Once you've selected something from the drop down menu and hit UPDATE you will have connected two records to each other.
6.) In the NOTE field, list what the connection is between the two records: 'John and Sue are siblings' or 'Sue is owner of Sue's Designs.'
